Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Logistics Management Specialist to work in the Sentinel Systems Directorate at Hill Air Force Base near Layton, Utah.


This position (988414) is an NH-346-03, which has a typical 2024 salary range of $86,962 - $134,435.


This position is not eligible for remote or full-time telework; situational-based agreements may be available at the discretion of the hiring manager. 


The Sentinel program is an ACAT ID major defense acquisition program charged to deliver a full system replacement for the nation’s Minuteman III (MMIII) Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) System, providing a strategic deterrent to nuclear attack against the United States. This position is integral to the success of the Sentinel weapon system and the continued support of one leg of the nation’s nuclear triad.  The Sentinel weapon system, when fielded, will continue the critical national strategic deterrence role currently performed by the legacy MMIII ICBM System.


The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Logistics Management Specialist for Sentinel Reliability Availability, Maintainability (RAM) and Supportability Analysis Section in the Specialty Engineering Branch of the Systems Engineering & Integration Division. The position will provide critical support by ensuring the system design is affordable and operationally effective through evaluation of contractor deliverables.


Logistics Management Specialists in AFNWC solve highly complex problems and take part in a variety of projects to promote national security through nuclear deterrence.  Employees will be part of a dynamic product support team and will be expected to operate at a high-performance pace and develop and maintain a radical teaming-centric culture. 
 

DUTIES:
  • Performs logistics planning through refining supportability analysis objectives and evaluating the follow-on product support capabilities required to support the design.
  • Evaluates contractor performance of RAM and Supportability Analysis through examination of Contract Data Requirement List (CDRL) documents and provides quarterly feedback of performance.
  • Responsible for monitoring reliability growth of the weapon system through contractor deliverables and quarterly Defense Acquisition Executive Summary reporting.
  • Plans, manages, and coordinates the Design Interface and Sustaining Engineering Integrated Product Support Element activities. 
  • Assesses the development of test data to provide measures of effectiveness for the Reliability & Maintainability engineering program and tracks reliability growth planning curves.
  • Implements risk management framework initiatives to identify, manage, monitor, coordinate, and mitigate logistical risks to the program. 
  • Assesses RAM costs and logistics impacts of the Sentinel program, identifies logistics tasks to be performed and takes actions to ensure contractor will meet requirements.
  • Determines optimal data collection methods and the required software and tools sourced to ensure Reliability & Maintainability Key Performance Parameters are achieved.
 

SKILLS:
  • Three (3) or more years of progressively complex life-cycle logistics management is typically preferred.
  • Working knowledge of DoD Instructions 5000.91 “Product Support Management for the Adaptive Acquisition Framework” and 5000.88 “Engineering of Defense Systems” is valued.
  • Understanding of various weapon system supportability analysis documents including: Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) predictions, Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), Reliability Centered Maintenance Analysis (RCMA) and Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Cost (RAM-C) Rational Report is a plus.
  • Knowledge of theories and principles of Integrated Product Support Elements planning, development, and execution sufficient to coordinate and integrate functions into a total, well structured, and viable program is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with reliability engineers on various systems engineering activities and derive logistics requirements based on associated supportability analysis is desired.
  • Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills with demonstrated experience in leading, influencing and collaborating in a diverse team environment that includes government and contractor stakeholders is valued.
  • Ability to prioritize failures according to the severity classification of the failure effects on mission success and personnel/equipment safety and evaluate estimates of system critical failure rates is a preferred.

  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance and will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise. 
  • Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Life Cycle Logistics “Foundational” Level certification within 36 months of appointment.
