Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Equipment Specialist to work in the Sentinel Systems Directorate at Hill Air Force Base near Layton, Utah.

This position (986455) is an NH-1670-03 with a typical 2024 salary range of $86,962 - $134,435.
 
This position is not eligible for remote or full-time telework; situational-based agreements may be available at the discretion of the hiring manager.
 
The Sentinel program is an ACAT ID major defense acquisition program charged to deliver a full system replacement for the nation’s Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) System, providing a strategic deterrent to nuclear attack against the United States. These positions are integral to the success of the Sentinel weapon system and the continued support of one leg of the nation’s nuclear triad.  The Sentinel weapon system, when fielded, will continue the critical national strategic deterrence role currently performed by the legacy Minuteman III (MMIII) Inter-continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) System.

Equipment Specialists in AFNWC solve highly complex problems and take part in a variety of projects to promote national security through nuclear deterrence. The employee will be part of the dynamic specialty engineering team and will be expected to operate at a high-performance pace and develop and maintain the radical teaming-centric culture. 

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Equipment Specialist within Sentinel’s Reliability Availability, Maintainability (RAM) & Supportability Analysis Section, part of the Specialty Engineering Branch.

DUTIES NH-1670-03:
  • Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates equipment deficiency and failure reports.
  • Reviews equipment reliability and supportability performance against established baselines, specifications, and requirements.
  • Reviews data such as reliability & maintainability predictions, failure modes/effects/criticality analysis, material deficiency reports, failure summaries, and maintenance task analysis reports for potential supportability and maintainability issues.
  • Ensures Sustainment Key Performance Parameter (KPP) requirement thresholds/objectives, statement of work, and weapon system spec requirements are on track and manages change, as necessary.
  • Trains and advises other branch personnel on statutory and regulatory processes, policies and tools and briefs stakeholders on status of area of responsibility to facilitate life cycle management of the Sentinel weapon system.
  • Assists in designing, developing, and/or testing new or modified equipment prior to its release for production and/or fielding (e.g., assess and ensure mechanical reliability, accessibility of parts and components for adjustment and repair, frequency and duration of repairs, time required for fault isolation).
  • Serve as a liaison between other logisticians and multiple stakeholders to ensure the Design Interface and Sustaining Engineering Integrated Product Support Elements are properly implemented across multiple Integrated Product Teams and Product Divisions.
 
SKILLS:
  • Experience in ACAT I acquisition; working knowledge of DoD Instruction 5000.91(Product Support Management) and 5000.88 (Engineering of Defense Systems) is highly desirable.
  • Experience in implementing the 12 Integrated Logistics Elements is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in Engineering & Manufacturing Development (EMD) Phase execution, and a leadership role in Critical Design Review (CDR) are desirable.
  • Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills with demonstrated experience in leading, influencing and collaborating in a diverse team environment that includes external functional and program stakeholders is preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is highly valued.
 
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance and will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise. 
  • Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) Lifecycle Logistics Management Foundational Level certification within 24 months of appointment to the position.
