Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Supervisory General Engineer to work in the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.
 
This position (988447) will be filled as a NH-801-04 which has a typical 2025 salary range of $124,531-190,343.
 
 
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Sentinel Systems Engineering, Integration & Test, Weapon System Certification Chief supervising government engineers, cyber survivability managers, and program managers; and managing and providing acquisition, technical, and managerial oversight on Weapon System Safety, Nuclear Certification, Weapon System Cyber Survivability, Program Protection, Adversarial Emulation, and Unauthorized Launch. The individual will be responsible for oversight of the cost, schedule, and performance of the Sentinel Weapon System Certification section, with direct oversight of contractor performance.  This individual will also be responsible for resource management, task and risk management, oversight of resources/personnel, and reporting through the chain of command.  Candidate will lead a fast-paced team that works to understand capability and engineering gaps and how to address them through collaboration, planning, and execution.
 
DUTIES:
  • As a supervisor, performs typical personnel management tasks, assigns and manages work within Weapon System Certification, organizes and conducts training, acquires necessary resources to accomplish the mission, and provides feedback and evaluations for assigned employees.
  • Serves as the technical authority on acquisition strategy, formulation, and execution, providing oversight and management of assigned workload and their execution status in support of the Weapon System Certification portfolio.
  • Advises on technical design, material development, acquisition, and operational issues related to requirements, systems engineering, finance, performance, and schedule trade-offs.
  • Represents the organization at multiple higher levels within the government and to contractor/industry representatives; deliver presentations on project/program status, accomplishments, challenges encountered and anticipated support requirements, and the integration and advocacy of program and project objectives.
  • Provides continuous assessment/evaluation of overall program goals, objectives, strategies, and performance to ensure a sound basis for long-range acquisition program management processes and planning.
  • Works closely with the prime contractor and mission partners in identifying projects and briefing leaders on organizational activities. 
  • Establishes management controls to meet program milestones and expenditure rates and leads management reviews to update leadership and stakeholders on program status.
 
SKILLS: 
  • This position typically requires at least eight years of progressively complex engineering experience.
  • Experience as 1st or 2nd line Supervisor at the NH-03/NH-04 level is required.
  • Solid leadership skills and the ability to integrate and collaborate across the program office and with high level organizations such as Air Force, Navy, and Department of Defense is required.
  • Proficient communication skills, both written and verbal, to include developing and delivering detailed briefings to Senior Leaders is required.
  • Competency with acquisition program management, risk management, cost management, schedule management, integrated baseline management, earned value management, and document and process information control on multimillion dollar acquisition projects is preferred.
  • Technical background with knowledge of and expertise in Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Weapon System development management, technology maturation, science and technology innovation within the U.S. nuclear enterprise is preferred.
  • Experience with support agreements, small businesses, University Affiliated Research Center (UARCs), National Labs, Federally Funded Research & Development Centers (FFRDC) is preferred.
  • Background working ACAT programs with the understanding and knowledge to implement the government acquisition process as defined by the Defense Acquisition University and IAW with DoDI 5000.02, Operation of the Adaptive Acquisition Framework is required.
 
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
  • U.S. CITIZENSHIP
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance and will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management “Practitioner” certification category within required timeframe after appointment.

  • This position is currently designated as a Critical Acquisition Position; the employee is required to sign a three-year service agreement.
