Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time, non-supervisory General Engineer to work in the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate, Minuteman III (MMIII) Division, at F.E. Warren Air Force Base near Cheyenne, Wyoming.
This position (968361) is an NH-801-03 which has a typical 2025 salary range of $88,621-$137,000. (pay rates may increase at the start of the 2026)
Engineers in AFNWC solve highly complex problems to promote national security through nuclear deterrence. They solve the most complex, high-risk aspects of the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) program – the ground-based leg of America’s Nuclear Triad. The AFNWC MMIII Systems Directorate manages the design, development, and integrated life-cycle activities of the MMIII weapon system.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Government Engineer on the MMIII Infrastructure systems which provide weapon system level expertise and knowledge to resolve technical issues at the field and depot level, thus enabling Operational Missile Wings to meet the U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) mission requirement for combat-capable nuclear missiles on constant alert.
DUTIES:
- Serves as a mechanical engineering consultant on all design aspects of assigned projects.
- Reviews technical requirements and adequacy of design criteria for MMIII launch facility and missile alert facility air conditioning, heating, ventilation, water supply, distribution, waste, and other miscellaneous mechanical systems.
- Develops and implements repairs for infrastructure damaged by corrosion, age, and other environmental factors, ensuring compliance with codes, standards, and regulations.
- Coordinates and communicates with multiple System Program Offices, Depot Field Teams, MAJCOM and installation level leadership and maintenance personnel to inform all aspects of ICBM mechanical system infrastructure sustainment, operations, and maintenance activities.
- Authors and edits official Air Force technical data for ICBM mechanical and other facility infrastructure to include system details and maintenance procedures.
- Responsible for the overall configuration control; new parts/equipment research and identification to sustain and upgrade launch, command & control, and test launch facilities and assess current/future system capabilities.
- Maintains and manages infrastructure engineering drawings and specifications library and data base.
- Contributes to current and future ICBM infrastructure policy and guidance development.
SKILLS:
- At least 3 years of experience using principles of systems engineering or facilities engineering for mechanical/structural systems design and/or mechanical/structural infrastructure sustainment is typically required to perform the role. Professional Engineer (PE) registration is desired, but not required.
- Knowledge of mechanical system military standards and governing documents is desired.
- Demonstrated experience in working effectively with multiple levels within DoD from installation to Major Command (MAJCOM) is preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively and willingness to make presentations in small groups and technical interchange sessions is valued.
- Periodic Temporary Duty travel to various locations, to include each missile wing, Vandenberg SFB, and Hill AFB, is typically required for this position.
