Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Supervisory General Engineer (009818381M) to work in the Technical Division, Program Management and Integration Directorate (AFNWC/PIT) at Kirtland Air Force Base near Albuquerque, NM. Work will be performed on-site at Kirtland AFB, NM.
Remote work is not authorized for this position, although situational telework may be authorized.
This position is an NH-0801-04, which has a typical 2025 salary range of $125,882 - $192,490.

The primary purpose of the position is to serve as the Design Nuclear Certification Manager (NCM) supporting design, construction, and nuclear certification of Weapons Generation Facility (WGF) projects. Leads as the Co-Chair of the WGF Nuclear Certification Working Group (NCWG) in accordance with AFI 63-125 and as the primary representative of the WGF program office to the nuclear certification community for day-to-day management and execution of the WGF Nuclear Certification Program. This position simultaneously serves as Deputy Chief, Technical Division, assisting the Division Chief with leading and managing the division.
Ideal candidates should have a strong background in facilities engineering/construction principles and leading teams.
Highly desired: Experience with Air Force nuclear certified facilities, weapon systems, or engineering design experience with infrastructure and/or MILCON acquisitions for military facilities. 8-15 years of experience using principles of systems engineering, civil engineering, or facilities engineering. Also several years supervising/leading engineers at the 1st and/or 2nd level supervisory positions.
DUTIES:
- With the Division Chief, exercises supervisory duties at least 25% of the time. Plans work for subordinates, sets and adjusts short/long-term priorities, prepares schedules for completion of work, and evaluates performance of subordinates.
- Serves as AFNWC/PI’s expert for facility design nuclear certification, leading a group of senior engineers across multiple DOD and DOE agencies. Applies facility engineering knowledge to ensure effective Certification Requirements Plans (CRPs) and manages the review of design and construction artifacts for WGFs and AFNWC MILCON projects. Ensure facility designs and construction conform to established requirements such as DAFI 63-125, Nuclear Certification Program, the Unified Facility Criteria (UFC), etc.
- Co-Chairs the Nuclear Certification Working Group (NCWG) for WGFs with AFNWC/NTS. Leads the weapon system nuclear certification process for WGFs and manages associated portions of WGF configuration control for certification.
- Leads AFNWC/PI integration within the nuclear certification community. Integrates the stakeholders including warfighters, program managers, engineers, logistics/test functionals, etc. to facilitate effective and timely design nuclear certification.
- Ensures timely completion of various engineering reviews such as design/construction submittals, Requests for Information (RFI), design deviations/modifications, deficiency reports, etc. for WGFs. Manages the development of all design nuclear certification requirements with applicable organizations, as needed.
- Applies engineering theories, concepts, and principles related to the acquisition and/or sustainment of systems for MILCON and facility modernization projects.
- Provides expert advice and counsel to senior leaders and key stakeholders responsible for broad program operations with an emphasis on facilities.
- Provides review and recommendations to infrastructure proposals for various construction and renovation projects.
- Collaborates with WGF project teams including AFNWC/NTS, Air Force Safety Center (AFSEC), Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC), Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC), US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC), contractors, and other key stakeholders regarding design and construction submittals.
- Represents the WGF Program Office at Nuclear Weapon System Safety Group (NWSSG) meetings and supports relevant safety studies/reviews and technical reviews of critical documents and designs.
- Briefs stakeholders on issues and risks associated with design and construction for facility essential systems IAW DAFI 91-118.
- Assign work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
- Works with the Technical Division Chief to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed, develop performance standards and ensures achievement of AFNWC/PI mission/goals.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
- U.S. CITIZENSHIP and must have an active SECRET clearance to apply.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance
- Minimum of 1-year specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level within the 0800-job series (or equivalent pay band).
- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication with diverse stakeholder group and organizational leadership.
- Experience in executing analytical studies of complex systems with strong ability to gather, assemble, analyze and interpret data and results to provide support to decision makers.
- This position will be coded under the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP), Engineering and Technical Management Practitioner Level certification.
- Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management “Practitioner” certification category within the required timeframe after appointment.
- In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employees may be required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
