Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) Integration Directorate (AFNWC/NC) is seeking one full-time NH-801-03, General Engineer (NOVRHR121M) to fill a position within the NC3 Integration Directorate, located at Hanscom AFB or MITRE, Bedford MA. Position Description: Futures and Integration Engineer (1 position at Hanscom AFB, MA)
The primary purpose of this position is to support the Advanced Concepts and Platform Integration Integrated Product Team (IPTs) within the Futures Branch. The selectee’s efforts will be critical to guide the development of advanced communications technology, conducting pre-milestone activities to transition capability to acquisitions programs. Additionally, this selectee will facilitate integration of NC3 capabilities into platforms such as Sentinel, SAOC, KC-46 and more, working with key stakeholders from Air Force Global Strike Command, U.S. Strategic Command, and other Service components to explore technology areas, develop concepts, and devise acquisitions strategies. Furthermore, the candidates will have the opportunity to work on a combined team with technologists from FFRDCs, Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), and industry to conduct technical investigation and acquisition planning of innovative communications technologies for potential integration into the next generation USAF NC3 Weapon System (AN/USQ-225). Engineering activities performed in this branch directly affect the NC3 Weapon System function, and our warfighter’s ability to perform NC3 and other essential functions as directed by the President of the United States. Leads projects as assigned by the Lead Engineer and oversees contractor engineering work performance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and EXPERIENCE (applies to all positions):
- Background in Research & Development, Technology Maturation, Systems Integration, and Test and Evaluation of weapon systems.
- Demonstrated expertise related to nuclear and environments testing, flight testing, hardware-in-the-loop (HWIL) ground testing, instrumentation, telemetry, and integrated systems testing.
- Experience architecting, deploying, managing, securing, and/or operating RF, terrestrial, or MILSATCOM systems.
- Knowledge of commercial industry SATCOM and terrestrial communications systems and industry best practices.
- Experience with Modular Open System Approaches and successful implementation of open standards (OMS, SOSA, FACE, etc.) into programs/systems.
- Experience with performing multidisciplinary engineering work and lifecycle systems engineering functions on a major defense acquisition program (MDAP).
- Experience with digital engineering in acquisition and using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) toolsets to create, effectively communicate, and interpret complex system models.
- Experience performing trade studies on design changes to recommend solutions to technical problems, and recommend optimal engineering approaches throughout the system lifecycle from concept to development phase and into production and sustainment.
- Expert knowledge of System of Systems integration, systems engineering and specialty engineering disciplines to ensure planned modifications meet end-to-end performance requirements for the target system and capabilities function as intended within the AN/USQ-225 weapon system.
- Experience reviewing contractor technical CDRL deliveries for quality and sufficiency and performing technical evaluations of contractor proposals and statements of work.
- Experience in conducting market research, developing request for proposal documentation, conducting source selection and/or technical evaluations.
- Refined communication and teamwork skills to effectively engage with extended and geographically dispersed stakeholders at all levels and demonstrated independence, assertiveness, self-reliance, and tenacity to get the job done.
- Experience planning, organizing, & directing the execution of complex tests.
- Experience analyzing complex test results to reach technically informed decisions and/or recommendations to senior leaders.
- Experience working with extended and geographically dispersed teams, to include multiple Government, Industry, FFRDC, UARC and DoD research lab organizations.
- Knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structure, and operation of the OSD, DoD, HAF, AFOTEC and organizations that govern, interface with, and/or influence systems acquisition, development and/or sustainment, and knowledge of planning, programming and budgeting cycles, financial systems and restrictions on expenditure of funds.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:

- Position is designated special-sensitive and requires eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related Special Sensitive information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP) to fully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance.
- This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The selected candidate must meet, or be capable of meeting, Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act requirements applicable to the duties of the position. Current Engineering & Technical Management (ETM) Practitioner certification is required. If not already certified as an ETM Practitioner, the selected candidate is required to attain certification within 60 months of appointment.
- In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employee may be required to file an Office of Government Ethics (OGE) Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
- This is a designated Drug Testing Position.
- This position is not eligible for remote work or regular and/or recurring telework.
- Occasional travel to supported organizations and potentially for training opportunities.
