The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Security Specialist (009894251M) to work in the Information Protection (IP) at Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico.

This position is an NH-0080-03 which has a typical 2026 salary range of $90,479 - $139,870(with locality)

The primary purpose of this announcement is to fill the following position:  Security Specialist: Information Security, supporting AFNWC as a multi-disciplinary subject matter expert providing advice and oversight for Information, Physical, Industrial, Personnel Security, and liaison between AFNWC/IP, AFNWC, Center Commander, Center Portfolio Acquisition Executives (PAE), Program Offices, and other security-related agencies supporting AFNWC acquisition and operational activities.

DUTIES:
  • Serve as the Information Security Specialist.
  • Manages the Center information security program and associated physical, personnel, and industrial security requirements. 
  • Directs activities of assigned contractor personnel.
  • Implement processes, trains Center personnel, and reviews or assists in the preparation of acquisition security matters.
  • Evaluates new concepts, security regulations, and ideas of technical and management importance to make informed recommendations for Center and Directorate leadership.
  • Provides policy, guidance, and associated training for Information Protection disciplines.
  • Manages facility certification and plans for future projects.
  • Examine security initiatives, protection measures, and processes for application across platforms, systems, and organizational lines.
  • Develops and prioritizes organizational security and information protection performance goals and mission objectives.
  • Develop operating procedures and plans, acquisition security concept, and implementation plans.
  • Identifies and validates mission security requirements through evaluation or development of security elements of applicable program.
  • Effectively provide briefings and keep Center, Directorate, Division Chiefs and assigned personnel informed and/or trained on security programs. 
SKILLS:
  • Candidates should have demonstrated experience in Information Security.
  • A broad technical background and related AF operational and acquisitions experience is desired, with experience in operations, research, analysis, and developmental planning.
  • Ability to solve problems through innovative approaches is required.
  • Experience in analytical red-teaming, vulnerability analysis, root cause analysis, or risk analysis is highly desired.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills are required to effectively interface with internal and external stakeholders at all levels as well as the independence, assertiveness, self-reliance, and tenacity to get the job done, is a must.
  • Application of critical thinking skills, risk management, configuration management, and decision analysis.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION (not all-inclusive):
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must be eligible and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience with multiple security disciplines and demonstrate expertise in Information Security (Protection). 
  • Knowledge of government contractual practices and requirements for development and purchase of Air Force acquisition programs and/or supporting programs/projects is required; familiarity with Defense Industrial Base security organization, operations, and management practices is a plus.
  • Knowledge in program protection, physical, system, information, industrial, personnel, operations security concepts, principles, and practices with collateral, SAP, and SCI programs and able to plan, implement, and integrate security programs in these areas is highly desired. 
  • Extensive knowledge of Air and Space Force Acquisition Enterprise missions, functions, and structure to ensure effective implementation of oversight of security program concepts, principles, and practices is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, analyze, and evaluate security programs to meet mission requirements and improve the security program for assigned area is highly desired.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, are highly valued.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contribute to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission is required.
  • Knowledge of nuclear system military standards and governing documents.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; employees must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employees may be required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre‐employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • This position may require up to 25% travel.
