Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Lead Acquisition Program Management Specialist to work in the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate, Sentinel Systems Division at Hill Air Force Base near Layton, Utah.
This position (960681) is an NH-1101-03 which has a typical 2026 salary range of $89,508 - $138,370.

The Sentinel program is an ACAT 1D major defense acquisition program charged to deliver a full system replacement for the nation’s Minuteman III (MMIII) ICBM System, providing a strategic deterrent to nuclear attack against the United States. This position is integral to the success of the Sentinel weapon system and the continued support of one leg of the nation’s nuclear triad.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Lead on the Environmental Team within the Sentinel Launch Systems Section. Program Managers in AFNWC solve highly complex problems and take part in a variety of projects to promote national security through nuclear deterrence.
DUTIES:
- Leads a team with geographically dispersed teams, including subject matter experts from across the Sentinel and Minuteman III Programs, Air Force Global Strike Command, United States Army Corps of Engineers, Air Force Civil Engineering Center and contractors to ensure program activities are successfully planned, coordinated, and executed.
- Represents the organization at executive levels within the government and to contractor/industry representatives, delivering presentations on project/program status, accomplishments, challenges encountered and anticipated, support requirements, and the integration program and project objectives.
- Serves as Branch primary point of contact for external relations, expertly engaging with diverse non-governmental organizations, community leaders, and the public to communicate program objectives.
- Establishes management controls such as milestones, expenditure rates, management indicators, and management reviews to reflect program status and provide early detection of emerging problems.
- Advises Branch and Division leadership on programmatic and technical risks associated with implementing proposed courses of action.
- Provides continuous assessment/evaluation of goals, objectives, strategies, and performance to ensure a sound basis for long-range acquisition program management processes and follow-on system life cycle support planning.
SKILLS:
- Experience managing execution of elements of a DoD ACAT I/II program is highly desired.
- Strong communication, organizational and leadership skills with demonstrated experience in leading, influencing and collaborating in a diverse team environment that includes external functional and program stakeholders and state and federal agencies.
- Develop and coordinate effective integrated support for schedules, plans, roadmaps and milestones to successfully execute or field a weapon system.
- Experience preparing and presenting briefings, reports, findings and recommendations, program information, written summaries and results from synthesized data and/or metric analysis etc., with senior leadership, external stakeholders and customers (e.g., government contractors, other government agencies, etc.).
- Experience with stakeholder/public engagement and strategic communications related to a DoD program.
- Knowledge of current U.S. environmental laws and regulations, DoD and Air Force instructions, policies, directives, and applicable agreements pertinent to complex projects is preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred; a master’s degree is ideal.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION (not all-inclusive):

- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance and will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Program Management “Practitioner” certification category within required timeframe after appointment.
- In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employee may be required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and annually thereafter.
