AFNWC/NC, the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3) Integration Directorate, is seeking a highly qualified and motivated engineer to fill an NH-0801-04, General Engineer 010513451M position to be the Looking Glass Next Lead Engineer at Hanscom AFB, MA. This NH-0801-04 position has a typical 2026 salary range of $142,452 - $197,200, including Boston area locality pay. 
 
**IMPORTANT**  DUTIES: 
  • Serves as the NC Looking Glass Next Lead Engineer, applying electronics, mechanical, aerospace, and/or other engineering disciplines to the field of product support/sustainment management engineering in support of the NC3 mission.
  • Leads, directs, and synergizes a diverse, multi-disciplined team of USG, FFRDC, A&AS, and fee for service contractor efforts in the field of nuclear communication system design, development, testing, certification, and fielding/modification.  
  • Provides end-to-end NC3 SME expertise. Identifies gaps and shortfalls in existing efforts, facilities, products, and plans and executes a way forward.  
  • Provides expertise to Division Chiefs, Senior Functional, or Director and PEO AFNWC/NC and serves as a Team Lead in planning, implementing, configuration baselining, and executing engineering work.  
  • Coordinates closely with AFLCMC PEO PE, Looking Glass Next Program Office, AFNWC/NCW Weapon System Division, Space Force, Space Systems Command, and the MILSATCOM Division to ensure synergy continues between respective weapon systems. 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: 
  • Knowledge of systems engineering to manage extensive technical work performed by subordinates in the workforce. This includes knowledge of the physical and disciplined engineering sciences and mathematics and the processes, techniques, and practices of electronics engineering. 
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise in the work of the unit (such as engineering, cost accounting, logistics supply, etc.), including the ability to maintain credibility with others on technical matters. 
  • Knowledge of resource management, planning, programming, budgeting, appropriation, funding, and accounting processes and their implication for effective mission accomplishment. 
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and guide others toward goal accomplishment. Leadership ability, including the ability to coach, mentor, and challenge integrated product team members; ability to adapt leadership style to a variety of situations; and ability to model high standards of honesty, integrity, trust, openness, and respect for the individual by applying these values to daily behavior. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing. Gather and analyze a variety of program information, make sound judgments concerning program progress, and effectively communicate recommendations orally and in writing to higher organizational management and contractors. 
  • Ability to evaluate insertion of new technology for design efficiency, cost reasonableness, and developmental risks. 
  • Strong systems engineering background with a minimum of 5 years of experience working in DoD Acquisition and Engineering required.  
  • Ideal candidates will have experience related to architecting, designing, deploying, sustaining, managing, securing, or operating RF, Terrestrial, airborne, or SATCOM communications systems.  
  • Candidate should have experience in managing large scale integration efforts with a multi-functional team (PM, EN, LOG, PK) and diverse stakeholders from multiple organizations. 
  • Individual should have experience in change management, demonstrated leadership in building high performing teams, and balancing multiple organizational competing interests. 
  • NC3 domain engineering and system security engineering experience desired. 
REQUIREMENTS: 
  • U.S. CITIZENSHIP 
  • The position is subject to random drug testing.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations. 
  • An advanced engineering degree, such as a Master’s or PhD is preferred. Electrical, Electronics/RF/Communications, Computer, Software and Systems Engineering degrees are desired.  
  • This position is designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP). The selected candidate will be required to take Government provided training and obtain APDP Practitioner Level certification in Engineering and Technical Management. 
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft. 
  • The selected candidate will be the subject of a security background investigation and the work requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance (TS/SCI). 
  • Incumbent performs other engineering related duties as assigned.
