Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Non-supervisory General Engineer 009459671M to work in the Technical Division, Program Management and Integration Directorate (AFNWC/PIT) at Kirtland Air Force Base near Albuquerque, NM.
This position is an NH-0801-03, which has a typical 2026 salary range of $90,479 - $139,871. Recruitment, Relocation, Retention, and Student Loan Incentives may be authorized
Work will be performed on-site at Kirtland AFB, NM. Remote work is not authorized for this position.
The primary purpose of the position is to serve as a facilities engineer supporting design, construction, and nuclear certification reviews for seven new, state-of-the-art Weapons Generation Facilities (WGF), other AFNWC facility acquisitions and HQ facility operations and maintenance (O&M) projects.
Candidates should have a strong background in engineering principles and working in teams, specifically in DoD facilities engineering, including experience with facility control systems and cybersecurity. Experience with Air Force nuclear certified systems is highly desired. Furthermore, the candidate will assess the impact of emerging technology on current systems and processes to formulate recommendations and solutions.
DUTIES:
- Collaborate with Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC), Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC), US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) and other key stakeholders regarding design and construction submittals. Support technical reviews of critical documents and designs.
- Manages multiple efforts to develop technical requirements, acquisition strategies, identify contract vehicles, and execute plans with cost, schedule, and performance constraints to fill capabilities gaps.
- Applies engineering knowledge to review facility projects, ensuring designs conform to established codes, criteria and standards and meet warfighter requirements.
- Applies advanced theories, concepts, and principles related to development or sustainment of systems for MILCON and facility modernization projects.
- Provides expert advice and counsel to senior leaders and key stakeholders responsible for broad program operations with an emphasis on facilities.
- Supports development of facility deviations for areas that do not meet design requirements for nuclear certification.
- Briefs program managers and customers on issues and risks associated with design and construction for facility essential systems.
- Collaborates with teams and leadership to provide decisional briefings and presentations based on data, trends and findings.
- Serves as an expert in Building Management Systems and/or Industrial Control Systems.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
- U.S. CITIZENSHIP and must have an active SECRET clearance to apply.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance.
- 3 years of experience using principles of engineering, ideally civil engineering or facilities engineering.
- Possesses knowledge and experience in Building Management Systems and/or Industrial Control Systems.
- Experience in executing analytical studies of complex systems with strong ability to gather, assemble, analyze and interpret data and results to provide support to decision makers.
- Must be able to understand and interpret building codes, facility design analyses, drawings, specifications, construction submittals.
- DoD military construction (MILCON) program experience is highly desired.
- Experience and proficiency with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software is highly desired.
- Experience with Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center (AFIMSC) and/or AFCEC and the MILCON priority process is desired.
- This position will be coded under the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP), Engineering and Technical Management Practitioner Level certification. Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management “Practitioner” certification category within the required timeframe after appointment.
- In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employee may be required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
- Current registration or licensure as a professional engineer or certification as an engineer intern in any US State or territory is desired but not required. In accordance with HQ USAF/DP Memo, “Payment of Expenses to Obtain Professional Credentials” dated 23 March 2003, employees may request reimbursement of expenses required to maintain professional credentials in accordance with their local unit procedures, subject to funds availability.
