Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time General Engineer (Systems) to work in the ICBM Digital Capabilities Division, Mission Systems Branch, at Hill Air Force Base near Layton, Utah.

This position (9862461) is an NH-801-03 which has a typical 2026 salary range of $89,508 - $138,370.

The selected candidate will be in AFNWC and will work on a cross-functional team to promote national security through nuclear deterrence. They solve the most complex, high-risk aspects of the ICBM program – the ground-based leg of America’s Nuclear Triad. The AFNWC ICBM Systems Directorate manages the sustainment, design, development, and integrated life-cycle activities of the ICBM family of systems including Minuteman III, warhead capabilities, and Sentinel.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Systems Engineer within the Digital Mission Systems Branch. The Digital Mission Systems Branch provides ICBM Directorate-wide digital capabilities essential for weapon system testing, baseline management, modeling and simulation, software development, and product support modernization. These digital systems, developed and maintained by the Digital Capabilities Division, are foundational to the design, deployment, testing, and ongoing operations of the ICBM enterprise.

DUTIES:
  • Apply comprehensive Systems Engineering (SE) principles and processes in support of diverse sustainment and acquisition programs.
  • Expedite technical solutions to resolve complex issues and ensure the timely delivery of mission-critical digital capabilities.
  • Provide technical oversight within multi-disciplinary teams, evaluating contractor performance, tracking technical progress, and facilitating process improvement initiatives.
  • Translate complex technical issues and resolutions for stakeholders, contractors, and team members with varying levels of technical expertise.
  • Develop and deliver high-level technical briefings and reports to program stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Engage with geographically distributed, cross-functional teams comprising USG personnel, Industry Support Contractors (ISC), Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC), University Affiliated Research Centers (UARC), and additional support contractors to ensure seamless planning, coordination, and execution of strategic initiatives.
SKILLS:
  • Typically requires three or more years of relevant engineering experience to perform successfully in this role.
  • Proficiency with modern Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools (e.g., Cameo, Ansys) and Requirements Management tools (e.g., DOORS) is highly desired.
  • Experience in research and development, acquisition, production, maintenance, and system modification is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ICBM weapon systems is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience applying systems engineering principles to identify and address weapon system design, integration, and testing is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or hands-on experience implementing Digital Material Management (DMM) initiatives and/or executing digital acquisition programs within USG departments or agencies is preferred.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills are required, along with the ability to operate independently and collaborate effectively within a team.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance, and will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.

  • In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employee may be required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
  • Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management “Practitioner” certification category within the required timeframe after appointment.
