The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) seeks an NH-1102-04 Supervisory Contract Specialist (Deputy Director) 009269321M to ensure our nation’s most powerful weapon systems are never doubted, always feared. This Deputy Director of Contracting position supports the development, modernization, and sustainment of programs within the Air Force Program Executive Officer - Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (AFPEO/NI), AFPEO - Nuclear Air Delivered (AFPEO/NAD), Air Force Portfolio Acquisition Executive - Nuclear Command, Control, and Communication (AFPAE/NC3) portfolios, as well as headquarters support. Duties of this position may be performed at Kirtland AFB (preferred), Hanscom AFB, or Hill AFB.
This position is a NH-1102-04 which has a typical 2026 salary range of $127,141 - $194,417 (Includes locality) – Kirtland, AFB (a relocation incentive may be available)
This position is a NH-1102-04 which has a typical 2026 salary range of $142,452 - $197,200 (Includes locality) – Hanscom, AFB

About the Role:
As the Deputy Director, you will provide executive leadership and management for the Directorate of Contracting, shaping procurement strategies, informing resourcing and training, advising senior leaders, and engaging industry to support the center’s mission across seven geographically separated contracting offices. Supported programs include:
- Sentinel and Minuteman III ICBMs
- Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications Systems
- Long Range Standoff Weapon, Air-Launched Cruise Missile, and the B-61 Tail Kit Assembly
- Various advanced science & technology, Small Business Innovation Research, and Other Transaction Authority efforts.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Acts as a strategic advisor to the Center Commander, AFPAEs and staff directors and provides overarching executive leadership for contracting personnel and multi-disciplinary teams.
- Provides technical advice, coaching, and strategic guidance on the development and implementation of acquisition strategies and other matters associated with major systems and other procurements across AFNWC.
- Ensures a highly skilled workforce capable of delivering high-quality and mission-effective solutions.
- Exercises Senior Contracting Official (SCO) and Senior Center Functional authority on behalf of the director.
- Develops, manages, integrates, and delivers complex supported/supporting organize, train, and equip relationships.
- Leads and manages responses to taskers and inquiries from MAJCOM, Headquarters Air Force, and other senior stakeholders.
- Serve as the center’s commercial and competition advocate.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- At least two years of 1102 experience directly supporting major systems acquisition contracting at the division chief (or equivalent) or higher level, and
- At least four years of second level supervisory experience for DAF 1102s.
- Desired: Experience reviewing and providing executive-level feedback on acquisition and contracting documentation with a demonstrated record of successful outcomes.
- Desired: Executive-level communication, diplomacy, and networking skills with a history of successful engagement with senior leaders.
- Desired: An advanced academic degree, completion of Intermediate Developmental Education, and/or Senior Developmental Education.
- Desired: Experience as a warranting authority.
- Desired: Experience managing personnel/HR matters for a DAF contracting organization.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
- U.S. CITIZENSHIP
- DAWIA Contracting Professional Certification.
- Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain and hold a TS/SCI security clearance. Failure to obtain or maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Current or previous earned unlimited DAF contracting officer warrant.
- This is a drug testing position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
- An advanced degree and completion of Intermediate and Senior Development Education (IDE/SDE) are highly desirable.
- The employee must meet the continuing acquisition education requirements IAW DoDI 5000.66 paragraph E2.2.8.
- In accordance with the Ethics in Government Act, 1978, employee is required to file an OGE Form 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, upon appointment and will be required to file annually.
- The position requires recurring travel and may be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of assigned duties.
- Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 25 days per year.
