Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Supervisory Information Technology Specialist (Technical Lead Architect) to work in the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate, Digital Capabilities Division at Hill Air Force Base, near Layton, Utah.

This position (986904) is an NH-2210-04, which has a typical 2026 salary range of $125,776 - $192,331.

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) / Lead Architect of the Business Support Branch. This role provides critical technical oversight for the implementation of new, complex IT projects that span across multiple platforms, directly supporting and enabling the weapon systems for the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). Key responsibilities include leading technical cyber design, network design, and architecture implementation; evaluating various software and cloud platforms to identify vulnerabilities or performance improvements; and driving the technical review process. This is a unique opportunity to provide high-level technical leadership and system design expertise for the ICBM Systems Directorate IT infrastructure.

DUTIES:
  • Serves as the Lead Technical Architect providing authoritative technical oversight and review for the implementation of new technical projects spanning diverse cloud and on-premises platforms.
  • Leads technical cyber design and design implementation across multiple platforms, ensuring robust cyber support and adherence to stringent cybersecurity processes and policies.
  • Analyzes and evaluates different software architectures and cloud platforms to proactively identify technical issues, security vulnerabilities, or opportunities for system improvement.
  • Directs the development and review of Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) and translates them into actionable network and system designs.
  • Pursues and applies advanced design and technical skills to solve complex integration challenges between legacy systems and modern cloud infrastructures.
  • Provides technical guidance on network design and complex system environments to ensure mission-critical resilience.
  • Plans work to be accomplished by the technical team; sets and adjusts short/long-term priorities based on technical difficulty and mission impact.
  • Evaluates subordinate performance, provide technical mentorship, advice, and counsel on architecture and system design matters.
  • Identifies developmental and technical training needs, arranging for necessary training to keep the team updated on emerging software, cloud, and cyber defense technologies.
     
SKILLS:
  • Extensive technical expertise in enterprise architecture, network design, and system integration across diverse platforms. This typically equates to at least 8-10 years of relevant systems architecture experience.
  • Deep understanding of software and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) with a proven ability to identify system issues and implement technical improvements.
  • Solid mastery of cybersecurity processes, policies, and technical cyber design/implementation within a DoD or highly secure environment.
  • Familiarity with advanced network design concepts and providing Tier 3/4 cyber support.
  • Proven ability to conduct rigorous technical oversight and architectural reviews for major IT implementations.
  • Ability to lead the creation and execution of Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) from a technical perspective.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership capabilities to mentor technical staff and guide engineering efforts.
  • Desired: While this is a highly technical role, a foundational understanding of project/program management principles is considered a bonus for aligning technical deliverables with mission timelines.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION (NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE):
  • U.S. CITIZENSHIP

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance. A current Top-Secret clearance is preferred.

  • Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) Program Management certification requirements within the required timeframe after appointment.

  • This is a DoD Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF) position and is assigned the following DoD Cyberspace Work Role Code(s) and Proficiency Level(s):

    • 612 (Enterprise Architect) (Proficiency: Advanced) 461 (Systems Security Analyst) (Proficiency: Advanced)
  • In accordance with DoDM 8140.03, employees will have 9 - 12 months to become fully qualified in all position requirements.
