AFNWC is currently seeking a full-time Division Chief to lead the Digital Capabilities Division within the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate at Hill Air Force Base near Layton, Utah.
This position (986386) may be filled as either an NH-1101-04, NH-2210-04, NH-0801-04, or NH-0855-04, which have a typical 2026 salary range of $125,776- $192,331.

The Digital Capabilities Division is responsible for developing, sustaining, operating, maintaining and disposing digital engineering tools, capabilities, networks, clouds, test data infrastructure, authorities to operate, and cybersecurity for the ICBM Systems Directorate. The ICBM Systems Directorate oversees the development, testing, production, fielding, and sustainment of the operational Minuteman III ICBM weapon system and the modernized Sentinel ICBM weapon system and all relevant subsystems, programs, and projects needed to maintain the land-based leg of the nuclear triad.
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Division Chief for the Digital Capabilities Division within the ICBM Systems Directorate, leading the development, fielding, sustainment, operation, maintenance, and protection of the Directorate’s digital engineering and information technology capabilities.
This position may be filled with any of the following occupational series, depending on the selectee’s experience:
NH-1101-04, Lead Information Technology Program Manager (Chief Digital Officer)
NH-2210-04, Lead Information Technology Specialist (Chief Digital Officer)
NH-0801-04, Lead General Engineer (Chief Digital Officer)
NH-0855-04, Lead Electrical Engineer (Chief Digital Officer)
DUTIES:
- Leads the design, development, and delivery of digital mission outcomes for the ICBM Systems Directorate, including the current and future technology programs needed to maintain and field the Minuteman III weapon system and Sentinel weapon system.
- Provides technical leadership and expertise to all personnel, programs, support missions, associates, and customers within the ICBM Systems Directorate and with external organizations (e.g., SAF/CN, AFMC A5/8Z, 75ABW) with a stake in the ICBM Systems Directorate’s information environments.
- Leads digital transformation, to include incorporating emerging technologies, tools and capabilities today, with associated roadmaps, investment strategies, etc.
- Lead cost, schedule, and performance optimization of the ICBM Systems Directorate digital capabilities, environments, tools, and environments in support of weapon system deliveries and for non-weapon systems information systems.
- Serves as the Organizational Senior Functional (OSF) for ICBM Systems Directorate’s information-centric workforce
- Provides expertise and advice to the ICBM Program Executive Officer (PEO) on all cyber activities associated with ICBM weapon system cybersecurity, including the development of Directorate strategies and policies for digital environments, the identification of cyber risks, and the development and execution of risk handling strategies.
- Orchestrates ICBM Systems Directorate information management, including collecting, transporting, storing, and transforming data into knowledge to facilitate engineering and acquisition decisions; building the platforms and applications to expedite and improve the accuracy of program office decision making; and creating, maintaining, and operating the environments to facilitate decision making.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- At least ten (10) years of experience relevant to the duties listed above.
- Leadership experience in complex stakeholder environments
- Acquisition or engineering experience, such as participating in milestone technical reviews, integration readiness reviews, test readiness reviews, qualification and verification reviews, configuration audits, and independent analysis activities for complex systems.
- Experience developing and/or providing leadership for acquisition of hardware and software, command and control systems, database systems, cyber security systems, graphical user interfaces, communications systems, and/or hardware devices.
- Background in professional engineering principles, modeling and simulation frameworks, requirements development, verification activities, digital engineering, and model-based systems engineering.
- Technical experience in the development, test and evaluation, fielding, and sustainment of hardware and software for strategic systems, such as nuclear weapon systems.
- Experience in software architecture, software systems engineering, and software test.
- Experience with ‘big data’ topics, specifically the application of DoW Data Strategy elements, data modeling, Digital Threads/Digital Twins, data management, and analytical capability needs of large, complex acquisition programs.

- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with Special Access Program (SAP) and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- The employee will need to attain and maintain relevant career field certifications.
- In addition to relevant technical experience, the federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) mandates education requirements for some of the occupational series listed in this announcement:
- Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management “Practitioner” certification category within required timeframe after appointment.
