Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a highly qualified Supervisory Executive Support Specialist (NOVRHR371M), to fill a NH-0301-04 vacancy in the AFNWC Command Center Staff Directorate located at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico.

The position is a NH-0301-04 which has a typical 2026 salary range of $127,141 - $194,417

The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Chief of the Commander's Action Group, directing or supporting the activities associated with support to the Commander, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center. The position exercises supervisory and managerial authority over Commander's Action Group (CAG) personnel and leadership and guidance to Command Staff administrative support personnel.

SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of staff operations functions in order to develop and implement innovative approaches and solutions to staff operations issues and to provide definitive input on how proposed changes would be detrimental or would enhance the mission and objectives of the AFNWC.
  • Skill in leading, managing, and supervising people with the ability to oversee the efforts of subordinate organizations responsible for various aspects of staff operations management across the AFNWC to include its geographically-separated units.  Ability to plan, organize work and direct team work to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of SAF/AQ, HAF/A10, AFMC, AFGSC, and AFNWC missions, objectives, procedures and how those interrelate with other program areas; and knowledge of the applicable regulatory framework.  Knowledge of military command structure, missions, programs, and organizational relationships.
  • Analytical ability and strategic thought to discern short, medium, and long-term effects of change in staff operations practices, procedures, and policies, and to effectively analyze the various components of staff operations as part of an integrated whole. Ability to recognize and analyze complex problems, conducts research,  assemble, and analyze facts; conduct analysis; devise recommendations, and summarize results in briefings, papers, or reports suitable for top management use and decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively at the highest levels of Center leadership to achieve overall AFNWC goals and objectives.  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, communicate complex issues and maintain good working relationships.
DUTIES:
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities at least 25% of the time. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short/long-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Evaluates work performance of subordinates. Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Interviews candidates for positions; recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignment. Hears and resolves complaints from employees, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to a higher level supervisor or manager. Effects minor disciplinary measures, such as warnings and reprimands, recommending other action in more serious cases. Identifies developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training. Finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed. Develops performance standards.
  • Leads, manages, directs, plans, and organizes activities of the Commander's Action Group (CAG). Serves as senior staff officer, senior project manager, and strategic planner for all CAG activities. Provides direct executive support to AFNWC/CC, CA, and CD. Center's focal point for preparation of executive-level preparation materials, facilitates on-time preparation, responses, and suitable execution of internal and external meetings and video teleconferences (VTCs) for the aforementioned executives, to include assisting directorates in scheduling, preparing read-ahead materials, building agendas, recording minutes, tracking action items, and integrating staff and meeting activities. Coordinates and/or creates AFNWC executive's briefings, agendas, and/or content required in support of AF, AFMC, and AFNWC-level conferences as appropriate. Serves as the information integrator for AFNWC 2-letter directors in support of AFNWC/CC/CD/CA; ensures timely cross-flow of functional information. Maintains the Center's strategic calendar. Provides preparation of or contributions to speeches, remarks, presentations, ceremonies, publications, and engagements involving listed executives. With minimal oversight, CAG prepares AFNWC leadership for key customer engagements including AFMC Corporate Boards and other high-level events. Required to regularly communicate with senior AFNWC, MAJCOM, Air Staff, and DoD leaders on AFNWC operational plans and business process issues to increase our mission effectiveness.
  • Represents the Center at higher levels within internal and external to the organization. Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with other coordinating members, supported and supporting organizations and Commands, offices, or organizations across the Air Force or DoD arena and/or DOE, or outside organizations. Meets with key customers and coordinating officials to assess customer satisfaction, explaining organizational policy, positions, and procedures; resolves significant problems that arise. Ensures subordinates provide customer guidance and training. Identifies the need for, and participates in special projects and initiatives, performs special assignments, and initiates milestones and goals. Evaluates reports or staff packages by analyzing facts, performing appropriate research, and preparing detailed responses. Conducts the AFNWC Mission Brief to various internal and external audiences.  Determines appropriate recommendations for unresolved or questionable problems and performs follow-up.  Researches and determines or recommends appropriate actions or interpretation of issues that impact Center, MAJCOM, or Agency/Department.

  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions present a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, national security and public safety.
  • Work may require travel several times a year.
