Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking four (4) full-time General Engineers to work in the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate, Sentinel Systems Division, Launch Systems Segment at Hill Air Force Base near Layton, Utah.

These positions (983899, 988530, 986911 & 986423) are NH-801-03s.  The basic salary range for these positions is $89,507 - $124,290 based on Value of Position (78), which includes Hill AFB (17.06%) locality pay.

The AFNWC Sentinel Systems Division manages a major acquisition of the next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) System, providing a strategic deterrent to nuclear attack against the United States. The Launch Systems Segment is primarily responsible for the weapon system infrastructure.

The primary purpose of these positions is to evaluate and solve the complex, technical problems specific to the Sentinel program.

DUTIES:
  • Serve as an engineer on a multi-disciplinary team, providing technical leadership and expertise on contractor work performance to include tracking progress, evaluating work products, supporting missions, and facilitating process development/improvement initiatives. 
  • Actively use Systems Engineering principles and processes in support of multiple sustainment and acquisition efforts.
  • Serve as a Sentinel technical subject matter expert for assigned areas and advises on technical design, development, acquisition, test, and operational issues related to requirements, systems engineering, safety, and security.
  • Support projects for the engineering team, setting priorities and tracking multiple technical issues at a time across multiple programs.
  • Communicate issues and resolutions to contractors, stakeholders, and team members with varying technical backgrounds.
  • Engage with extended and geographically dispersed stakeholders including subject matter experts from across AFNWC, Air Force Global Strike Command, support contractors, etc., to ensure technical activities are successfully planned, coordinated, and executed.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Three or more years of relevant engineering experience is typically desired to successfully perform as an engineer.
  • Experience in areas such as research and development, design, acquisition, production, maintenance, repair, engineering support, testing and evaluation, and/or system modification is preferred.
  • Understanding of DoD weapon systems issues, and experience working with government organizations in areas such as research and development, design, acquisition, production, maintenance, repair, engineering support, testing and evaluation, and/or system modification is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with ICBM weapon systems is preferred.
  • Experience administering systems engineering principles in weapon system acquisition is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the integration of nuclear hardness, environmental/corrosion, and safety is desirable.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION (NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE):
  • U.S. CITIZENSHIP
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance and will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.

  • A professional engineering degree at the bachelor’s level in a course of study accredited by the ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission is required. An advanced degree in engineering is preferred.
  • Employee must meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management “Practitioner” certification category within required timeframe after appointment.
