HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The program executive officers from Hanscom will speak about their missions and present ongoing and upcoming business opportunities during the New Horizons event, March 9-11, at the Marriot Hotel in Newton, Massachusetts.
This year, New Horizons will focus on “Acquisition Challenges and the Future: Emerging Systems and Technologies, Solutions, Platforms and the Cloud.” Sponsored by the Lexington-Concord chapter of AFCEA, the event brings together government, industry and academia.
Maj. Gen. Michael Schmidt, Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence and Networks PEO, is scheduled to speak on March 10, while Steve Wert, PEO for Digital, and Scott Hardiman, Deputy PEO for Nuclear Command, Control and Communications are scheduled to speak on March 11.
“New Horizons provides collaboration of ideas and technologies in order to meet the Department of Defense’s mission requirements,” said Patrick Marr, Board of Director chair of AFCEA Lexington-Concord chapter and Acquisition senior site functional at Hanscom.
Also on March 10, Assistant Secretary for Acquisition from the Office of the Secretary of Defense Kevin Fahey and the Air Force’s Deputy Chief Information Officer William Marion will each provide a keynote address.
A “Disruptive by Design” panel, consisting of industry, government and AFCEA members, will discuss “Empowering Today’s Workforce to Tackle Tomorrow’s Problems.”
Organizers also want to provide innovative technology solution providers a chance to showcase their work, so there will be a session where innovative startup personnel present technology pitches to the attendees.
“These exciting technology pitches will be a great way for our DoD community to see what innovations are happening locally,” said Gretchen Stewart, AFCEA Lexington-Concord Chapter and Intel Data Science technical leader. “These technologists will be available with demonstrations during the evening reception. Please join us.”

For active duty military and government civilians, there is no cost to attend. However they must register online. Prior to New Horizons, on March 9 at 10 a.m., a separate Air Force Life Cycle Management Center-Hanscom small business panel will take place at the same location.
