AFNWC gains new commander

Brig. Gen. Garrett Harencak took command of the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center yesterday in a ceremony here.

Previously, General Harencak was the principal assistant deputy administrator for military application, office of defense programs, National Nuclear Security Administration, Department of Energy, in Washington, D.C.

His duties included assisting the deputy administrator in directing the Stockpile Stewardship Program. That program is responsible for maintaining the safety, security and reliability of the nation's nuclear weapons stockpile.

His responsibilities included three national research laboratories, the Nevada Test Site and four production plants with an annual budget of $5.2 billion.

General Harencak is a 1983 Air Force Academy graduate. He is a command pilot with more than 3,000 hours in multiple aircraft, including the B-52, B-1 and B-2 bombers. He has twice served as a wing commander.
